The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
