Palestinian-American Youth Released Following Nine-Month Period in Israel's Imprisonment

An Palestinian-American teenager after completing nine months in Israeli detention without charge gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 at the time of his arrest this past winter in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where he was visiting from his Florida home accused of stone-throwing at Jewish settlers, claims he consistently denied.

The US state department said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.

Now sixteen years old, required hospitalization for treatment immediately after release, relatives told the media.

They said he is showing signs of malnutrition, and experiencing medical problems contracted in captivity.

In a statement, the youth's uncle expressed the family's "tremendous relief".

Family member Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" throughout the past nine months.

"Currently, our priority is ensuring Mohammed receives the immediate medical attention necessary for his recovery after being subjected to Israel's abuse and brutal treatment over several months."

US officials stated they would maintain to extend consular services to the teenager's relatives.

{"American leadership has no higher priority to ensuring the safety for United States citizens"," it added.

A group of American legislators had signed a letter to diplomatic officials and the White House, demanding more be done to release him.

Mohammed's parent, parent of four children managing a frozen treats business in Florida, had earlier stated his child admitted guilt regarding stone throwing due to physical abuse.

There were no visits nor direct contact since February, and only heard about his son's condition in detention through court documents.

Mohammed was held lacking indictment in Ofer prison in the West Bank.

The facility also contains adult prisoners, including individuals found guilty regarding severe security violations and murder.

An estimated 350 Palestinian minors in security custody detained within Israeli facilities, based on prison authority data.

Many have never been charged and human rights groups, including UN bodies, say some have suffered mistreatment and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, the uncle stated they would maintain their efforts for justice for his cousin their cousin Sayfollah.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen who the Palestinian health ministry said was beaten to death by radical settlers amid clashes last July.

At the time, military authorities reported they were examining reports a Palestinian civilian was deceased.

Mohammed and Sayfollah collaborated in the family ice cream shop in Tampa, Florida.

No one has been charged regarding Sayfollah's death.

"We expect US authorities to ensure our family's safety," the uncle stated.
