Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
