Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the attack made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
