Canada's Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Meeting Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden World Series following 1993 by overcoming the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the ALCS.
Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, ranking him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that spot except for Springer with his October magic," said manager John Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this game," he added.
Toronto won the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
