Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”

Recurring Issues and Player Reaction

The manager lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.

“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances this poor.”

He stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
