Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has passed away at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Performative Style: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry laments the passing to a true visionary whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
